Carbon Footprint
The carbon footprint comprises the total amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases (e.g. methane, dinitrogen monoxide etc.) which come along with the life-cycle, i.e. production, usage and end of life of a product, process or service. These emissions emerge for instance power plants (electricity generation, heat production), powered by fossil fuels and also in other industry sectors and agriculture. They contribute to global warming.
Usually, you quantify the carbon footprint by using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) which is measured in tons of carbon dioxide equivalents (t CO2-aeq.).
Life Cycle Assessment can be used to calculate the carbon footprint.
Our expertise
The department of Life Cycle Engineering deploys profound scientific methods to calculate the individual product carbon footprint. Life Cycle Assessment, according to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044, ensures transparent analysis along the whole life cycle and therefore avoids a shift of burdens from one life cycle phase to another.
