Course Objectives and Contents

During this course the enrolled students learn the basics of the Life Cycle Engineering method and its application. They should be able to assess and classify the environmental impacts of the material and process choice in the product development. One should be also competent in integrating these impacts in the product development. The Life Cycle Engineering method is applied in the context of corresponding case studies. In this way the appliance and practical use of the method are shown, like quantification of environmental impacts in order to identify and to assess weak points and improvement potentials in the whole life cycle of products, processes and services. In practice these analyses are used to support decisions when choosing materials and processes. Thus the basics of the method are transferred and by means of practical case studies applied and enlarged upon.

This course addresses to engineering students. By means of this course they are enabled to evaluate environmental impacts of the material choice in the product development.
